SHIPBUILDING SHOP
“One of the important shops in the Production Department is the Shipbuilding Shop. Nearly 10,000 square meters are devoted to this shipbuilding facility, which includes two sizable work sheds where the ship's main hull is constructed. To carry out the fabrication operation efficiently, a variety of tools and machinery are available, including three CNC machines, bending machines, shearing machines, hydraulic press machines, welding machines, and plasma cutting machines. Additionally, the shipbuilding shop employs nearly 100 qualified welders and 200 highly skilled fitters. The ship building shop excels in working with steel and aluminum. According to the needs of the customer, the shipbuilding shop can manufacture a wide range of high-quality products (including IPV, FPB, high-speed sailboats, pontons, buoys, LCU, etc.). The shipbuilding workshop transforms the virtual hull model into a physical one.” Activities of the shipbuilding shop: The shop carries out numerous types of work, including the following tasks: 1. Prepare structure of hull and superstructure of different types of boat. 2. Repair works of hull and superstructure of vessels. 3. Prepare the nesting and programming drawings for CNC cutting. 4. Prepare different engineering structure (Buoy, steel foot over bridge, ramp etc.) 5. Prepare various outfitting items (Such as: Manhole, hatch, railing, mast, ladder, stair etc.)
DOCKING SECTION
The process of docking and undocking a new or repaired ship is carried out by the Docking Section. Docking is done with the aid of a series of drawings and plans, which designers prepare based on specific calculations. Hence, knowing docking processes, docking calculations, etc. DEW’s docking section plays a vital role by handling heavy machines (cranes, forklifts, etc.), which keeps the yard dynamic and alive. There are two main docking yards at DEW. One is situated on the Northside and the other one is on the Southside. The team of this section is formed by skilled Engineers, Divers, Dockers, Crane & Forklift Operators, Riggers, Heavy Machinery Operators and Helpers etc. Docking Section Features and Specifications: The capacity of Docking :1500 ton No. of slipway:13 nos. PAINT SHOP
The painting plays a big role not only in improving the appearance of the ship but also in its safety by preventing corrosion and fouling on the bottom of the ship. Furthermore, painting standards are strengthened to comply with environmental problems, so painting is a very important process in shipbuilding. Our paint shop is capable of meeting the above-mentioned requirements with international standard. The paint shop has 32 skilled workers and all the tools and machines they need, like three air compressors with a capacity of 7–10 bars, three spray painting machines, and two sand blasting machines with a 6 mm nozzle with necessary tanks. Activities of paint shop: • Surface preparation of various types of hull (steel, aluminum) • paint the hull using spray painting or roller painting applications. • Mechanical disking, hand scraping, and degreasing • Surface cleaning by sandblasting or sweep blasting • adheres to proper air temperature and relative humidity • Apply cement or food-grade paint to a fresh water tank.
COMPOSITE SHOP
“Composite boat building workshop was established on January 2018. It has total 962 sqm area equipped with one in number overhead crane (10 ton) to produce quality Composite/GRP boats. This shop is capable of manufacturing boats of various sizes (e.g. 8/12/15/18 meter etc) by using advanced infusion technique. DEW is the pioneer in composite boat building in Bangladesh by adopting advance vacuum infusion process. It has separate working space, stores and office area of adequate capacity including different types of structural molds”.

OUTFITTING SHOP
The outfitting shop is one of the eleven shops under the production department with an area of about 700 square meters. This shop is mainly responsible for shaft alignment and fitting, piping system installation and repair, pump setup and maintenance, and other auxiliary equipment. The shop is decorated with contemporary machinery and equipment. Machinery including an electric hydraulic pipe bending machine, electric hydraulic bore machine, laser guide alignment machine, etc. has strengthened the shop's capacity.
MAINTENANCE SHOP
Introduction: Maintenance Section is one of the valuable sections in Dockyard and Engineering Works Ltd. A Group of skilled Engineers and Technician has continuously enhanced their assessment and evaluation process to guide this section. At present 10 (Ten) skilled Technician working in various projects as well as maintain DEW owned machineries. This enormous section is maintained under GM (Production) and DGM (Engineering) with an OIC (Assistant Engineer). Maintenance Section is situated in the north yard in between ICE and Electrical Section. Following are some of the most common works done by Maintenance Section. Overhauling and periodic maintenance of all cranes & fork lift and its Engine. Overhauling and periodic maintenance of all production related machineries. Overhauling and periodic maintenance of various hydraulic/mechanical systems. To train up different institute student, like BUET, RUET, CUET, KUET, MIST, BIMT also some private Universities and Govt. polytechnic institute.
ELECTRICAL SHOP
• Installation, Commissioning, repair and maintenance of Electrical, Electronics, Navigation, Communication & HVAC equipment’s. • Servicing and fabrication of switch boards, starters & all classes of wiring and cabling. • The electrical shop department oversees the entire yard' electrical, electronics & HVAC system & machineries maintenance works. This department has motor rewinding facilities, AC & DC Dummy load test machines, electronics laboratory, Fiber laser marking machine, various type electrical test equipment, Burnish baking oven etc. as well as a fabrication shop for vessel distribution. • In order to operate the yard's we have two (500 KVA & 800 KVA & 11/0.415 KV) substations. In addition to that, backup power is crucial, therefore the yard contains three diesel driven gen sets of 500KVA Parkins/ Stamford Yor Power (UK). 475 KVA Mitsubishi (Japan) and 312.5 KVA (China).
(ICE) SHOP
Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) Shop is one of the valuable shops in Dockyard and Engineering Works Ltd. It has total 615.0 sqm area equipped with one in number 04-ton overhead crane. Major function of this is install, commissioning and servicing of Engine Gearbox and Generator. A Group of skilled Engineers and Technician has continuously enhanced their assessment and evaluation process to guide this shop. This shop is capable to install Engine, Gearbox, Generator & Engine Control system Installation up to 8,000 KW. This shop can overhaul Engine and Generator also up to 4,000 KW. Following is some of the most common works done by ICE shop. a) Install major machinery (Engine, Generator, Gearbox) of new building and repair project. b) Alignment of major machinery. c) Commissioning of major machinery as per class requirement. d) Test Trial of newly installed equipment as well as repairing machineries as per class and owner requirement. e) Fueling and defueling of Ship. f) Installation control system of Engine and Gearbox in different types of ship. g) Overhauling and maintenance of Engine, Generator and Gearbox of various Ship. h) Overhauling and periodic maintenance of DEW base machineries. i) To give industrial training of different institute such as Polytechnic institute, BUET, RUET, CUET, KUET, MIST, BIMT and also various institute student.
CARPENTRY SHOP

FOUNDRY SHOP
Foundry shop is an important Shop in Dockyard & Engineering Works Ltd. It has total 8611 sft area equipped with one in number 03-ton overhead crane. In this Shop various small parts are made for maintenance of repair project and DEW inhouse machinery. As per sample pattern are made for casting parts. This shop has 01 number Cupola Furnace (Capacity 350kg), 02 number Pit Furnace (Capacity 100kg) & 02 number Tilting Melting Furnace (Capacity 120kg). This shop can cast various parts by Cast iron, Gun metal, Aluminum, Zinc, Copper, White metal etc. Following is some of the most common works done by Foundry Shop. a) To make pattern as per parts. b) To make mold. c) Casting of Bush, Fairlead, Anchor, Mooring eye, Zinc Anode, Pump Impeller, Butterfly Bolt of Brass Metal and different parts of machinery etc. d) White metal bearing re-metaling e) Metal Hardening. f) Quenching of parts. g) To give industrial training of different institute student such as Polytechnic institute, BUET, RUET, CUET, KUET, MIST, BIMT and also various institute.
